We won!!!

It was really nice to see the way Dada and Jammy walked off the field today; Dada making sure the captain led the way to the dressing room by walking a little behind him. Jammy for his part turned around and made sure they walked off the field together. I thought it was sweet.
sniff.

Zak won man of the match which made my staying awake at this unearthly hour even more paisa vasool. He said 'definitely' about 20 times during his 2 minutes at the presentation ceremony but he said it looking very hot.

To the Board of Control for Cricket in India,

Its obvious you need a public speaking coach for the team.
I would like to offer my services, free of charge of course.

The end.

Yay we won!

or maybe the official fun girl blogger :) Look at what zero knowledge and zilch passion has taken Mandira Bedi :) You seem to know about cricket and are passionate. You should try to start a quest to replace her.

Step 1 : Shrink all clothes and cut them up to look slutty

Time to ask you what I've been planning to ask for a while......

When did the switch from Jammy to Dadi, err...Dada happen and why? Answer in less than 50 words. :P

[ On second thoughts, don't answer that. I'm only scared you might reveal some deep, dark secret about Jammy that might render him less human in front of my eyes! Siigh! ]

[ Ooookay. Not too much to drink. Tis the darned lunch I tell ya! ]

i would not want to be known as the girl who replaced mandira body. however i wouldnt mind being known as the girl who happened to accidentally run over mandira body or mandira's body in this case. muahahahaha.

ooh and i like your idea for the 'official fun girl blogger' title. if i ever win [which i will not! have u read gounder brownie? asal tamil penn? bm?] i will thank u profusely in my speech. ok? ok.

@shub: jammy i liked when he first made his debut because the boy was cute. i had posters all over my bedroom [i also had posters of akshay kumar and salman khan but we shall not talk about that] anyway as i started to understand and enjoy battign in general i realised the boy was different and reliable. now this was during the zamana of ramesh, bedade [exactly. who? he was known for hitting sixers anthe] etc so jammy stood out. and i hated it when silly girls in class woudl say silly things like "but he wasted so many balls" and i would get mad because no one realised the strike rate didnt matter if u scored less than 10 runs anyway so yeah i was a dravid supporter and argued relentlessly with father, unclejees, automan etc about this.

then dada became captiain. i had also been a fan of his batting but he was way more popular than dravid back then and didnt really need my support :)
then dada became captian and slowly things changed. the team changed. the team wasnt embarrassing to watch anymore. we actually had fast bowlers. a spinner apart from kumble, new young batsman who knew they belonged. anyway i give dada full credit for building a world class team and bringing attitude we'd never seen before which is why i hated everything that happened after chappal took over and jammy's betrayal yes betrayal!
i will stop for now. is there a word limit on this thing.

Thank you :) Atul Bedade, yes I knows :D [ Gosh we are such cricket-geeks! ]
Funnily I LOVED just Jammy's batting at the beginning. Then he mercifully went and lost that godawful moustache and I was in LOU! Big time! Siigh those days!

And then he went and married THAT woman. Sigh.

omg i cant believe someone else remembers bedade! most ppl think i make him up but he was so completely useless and everytime he came out to bat they would go on and on about how he is this special six hitter. do u also remember dodda ganesh and david johnson? ooh also by far the ugliest cricketer ever to have played [substitute fielded] for India rahul sanghvi!

and yes i remember the day jammy married the devva. she looked 40 and horrendous. what made it slightly better was the fact that jammy himself looked terrible on his maduve dina. some side parting yennefied hair. beauty couple they made.

then i gave up and pinned all my hopes on vvs who is far more beautiful. ok tell me if u think im crazy but i see a strong resemblance b/w vvs and nicholas cage. there was this one issue of wisden cricket asia with a black and white close up of laxman's face. he looked like an angel. sigh. then he went and married that woman! ugh.

now i have all my hopes pinned on zak.

comment completely unrelated to this post, but had to tell u that 'khamaj' was playing when i landed on the blog and that songs has been playing in my head, on my iPod and my work stereo the last 5 days! Amazing song isnt it?

Hahahaha, this is terrific! Dodda Ganesh yes, I fairly recall. But all other features on the face were eclipsed thanks to a dazzzling smile. Hehe.

David Johnson. Gold chain. Terribly fair fellow. Dyed hair. Funny hair that he used to keeep flipping back. Ugh. Show-off. I'd rate him below Sanghvi.

I don't like VVS much, apart from his batting sorry to say. He does resemble N.Cage. Who I don't find good looking either. Adikke I think I don't like VVS also. But splendid batsman WHEN he is in form. WHEN he is, that is. Hmph.

But Vijay Bharadwaj? Wot a byatsmyan. He was destined for greater things. Damn eet!

Zaheer Khan was most goodlookign when he had a french beard. Sigh.

And SOMEONE ELSE apart from me has read WISDEN CRICKET ASIA? or the "CRICKET" magazine you mean, right? I used to buy all sportstar and CRICKET issues that featured Jammy and spend hours poring over 'em. Still have the oldoldold issues back at home! And posters!

Thanks Pri, for a little jog down the memory lane :)

ooh funny story. i was watching this match [i think it was ind vs aus titan cup] in chinnaswamy stadium and there was this annoying guy sitting next to me chewing some sort of panparag type thing and sujit somsunder [remember him?] comes onto the field. i forget if he was substitue fielding or actually playing the game. so our friend jumps up and announces to the crowd "SOMSUNDER! ivanu nan jote gilidanda aadthaidda" and sits down. it was so funny.

ooh this is fun. which other b grade player do u rememeber?

abey kuruvilla? he was decent actually dont know what happened.

u know who i absolutely hated? hemang badani for some reason. and kanitkar. ugh i hated kanitkar and they persisted with him for soooooo long.

Pri said...

i remember sportstar mag. it was so lame. they covered other sports also [blah!] which was annoying.

the ones i remember best were wisden [i think cricinfo bought it] and 'cricket world' which was actually a good magazine but they had terrible pictures and their paper quality was bad.

i used to go to the magazine guy near kc das on church st and bug him for the magazines. they never arrived at the beginning of the month.

ooh after the ind aus test series in aus [the adelaide test series] i was full inspired and wrote this big article on it and full enthu i emailed it to the some editor at cricket world mag. she was so sweet. she wrote back and said she liked it and told me wat i needed to improve on. then i sent her another one [mainly an anti- bucknor piece and she said i had improved blah blah but never published anything not that i really expected her to. it was just so sweet of her to even reply. here i was this excitable little kid. anyway so since she thought it was decent and all i decided to send a copy to wisden cricket asia also and they actually published it. i almost died when i saw my name. then i sent another one after the india pak test series which they published also. and by published i mean like in the lame readers comments section. after that the excitement died and i moved to the amreeka. the end. :)

so the next time ure looking through ure old cricket mags look for the one with kumble on the cover and one with irfi on the cover.

Hehehe yes, in Blore you get a lot of those stories. "I've played in the same field as Jammy. Once he got out in some dabba local match and left the field in tears", I've been told. Hehe!

What differing tastes! :D I liked Badani and Kanitkar, they used to decently chip in with 30s at the end, no? Good fielder, that Kanitkar guy, if I recall right. Or he took one suuper catch maybe. Nenp illa. BIG ears though. Heh.

Abey Kuruvilla yes. Bowler, again, gold chain, alva? Wasn't consistent.

Ahhh Sujit Somsundar! When he came in was when we had the max number of players from Karnataka and I was SO proud. Bleddy parochial I used to be!

Pri said...

yes yes at one point there were some 6 or 7 players from karnataka in the team. dravid kumble srinath prasad joshi johnson ganesh.

we otally need to get on gchat sometime. i have to tell u my meet the cricketers story. so much fun!

shub said...

@Pri, totally. You have MET them, eh? Lucky devil!

@Neha...ooh more names! WOW! Yes yes we remember! Rajesh Chauhan stuck around for a while, didn't he?!

Karan said...

Ok, I thought the talk shows about cricker were bad. This takes the cake.

Neha said...

@ shub: yeah he did! best remembered for his glorious (i think it was slog, but in the context of the game it was beautiful)six in a game in pakistan. he also had a suspect action, which i think is the excuse they used to drop him ...

a warm hello to another cricket enthusiast of the female persuasion...our kind seems to be on the decline!

and not to mention, very nicely written :)

Pri said...

@shub: met them and how! ;)

@freespirit: it is a pretty song. i also think i have fabulous taste in music [also in other things] so check out the stickam player on top. u may like.

@neha: i dont remember if it was a slog shot. i mean the boy could bat but he was never consistent. anyway that one six got him a free pass to the team for an entire year.

@karen: go play in traffic

@i love lucy: welcome jee welcome.

just realized that you like SG and I dont...i agree with you about the part where you say SG was a good leader and the team looked capable under him vis-a-vis world cup 2003...but what followed thereafter especially the chappell episode was unforgivable...and then he comes back into the team and leads a mutiny of sorts against dravid with guys like the idiotic bhajji and a little lost yuvi..the concept of team spirit was lost on him...goobe thandu

Pri said...

@i love lucy: Dada didnt lead any sort of mutiny. The man got screwed over and made it back to the team on pure determination and hard work. And Sehwag, bhajji and yuvi are guys he fought for when he was in charge so they are loyal to him, they respect him and will therefore speak up for him [when they're allowed that is. The bcci doesnt really believe in freedom of speech]

Unknown said...

i still like gabby's article better

also, u can actually complie all the comments and then blog it!!

you say potaeetoes and i say potaaaatoes antha aythu kathe :)

And the less said about BCCI and those jokers Dalmiya and Sharad Pawar, the better.

and no one mentioned S Ramesh, the best test opener we've had since Sunny?

Pri said...

Saddagopan Ramesh? bwahahahahaha. i assume u were being sarcastic.
courtly ambrose had better footwork!
my fav test opener so far has been akash chopra. ive never felt more secure at the start of the innings [esp when veeru is at the other end]
plus what an awesome close in fielder!

Unknown said...

why is everyone obsessed with footwork? when you are blessed with timing like that - you dont need footwork :-) ( i was watching a recording of dada's century at adelaide in the 02 tri series - and the commentator kept on saying - doesnt have great footwork, but what timing) and chopra played 10 tests for and average of 23, Ramesh - 19 matches 2 100s, 8 50s, and an average of 37 which is probably higher than even Veeru's current average! and i am not even a big Ramesh fan..

Pri said...

chopra played for barely a series and a half. the boy just needed time to build on his average. i mean finally we had this batsman who was technically sound and who appeared confident. with ramesh one would sit there and cringe everytime he swung and missed [which was a lot] and u have to remember chopra did all this on australian wickets. there is no comparison b/w the two. also i like the veeru chopra combination a lot. i think they work really well together cause theres one guy whos solid at one end and will see the new ball off and theres the other guy at the other end who will keep the runs flowing.

anantha said...

Pri: I see you are keeping the Chopra name alive here! But I'll have to take exception to the "no footwork" quote. Because anybody who shows Akram and Waqar the middle virtual middle finger in Chennai (one of the better pitches in the country) should not really worry about footwork. And he did play well in the first class games during the '04 Aus tour, but with Sehwag and Chopra opening in the tests, he was sidelined. As for his dropping, it was the obligatory "attitude problems" reason that has been thrown about. And we know a lot of people who were described as having a bad attitude played and are still playing for that matter in the Indian team.
